My first Oil Painting

Hurray! :) Finally I done with my first oil painting. Its took two days to complete it. I was so much confused about what to paint and how to paint. I have never tried Oil painting before and I wanted to try it out. So I have decided to gather basic knowledge of how to kick start oil painting and things required for it. I Google for some tutorials and got plenty of information and videos for beginners.

Better and easiest way to get started in oil painting is to buy a kit that will contain all of the things you need. I have visited many store near to Fine Art school and found many kit. Most of paint kit come with paint, brushes, an easel and a palette. They were pretty expensive but I manged and convinced my heart for it :)

Following Things Are Needed for Oil Painting :

• Easel
• Canvas
• Palette
• Set of oils , tubes small or regular, base colors
• Set of brushes, of your choice
• A palette knife, for mixing or painting
• Turpentine, or linseed oil, or thinner, (I bought all)
• Rags or towels , jars, for cleaning and clean-up

I thought it was easy to paint on canvas with flat brushes and oil colors, but I found it really harder than water color. As per my culture traditions and customs, before starting any work and things Lord Ganesha blessing are taken. So I have  decided to start with Lord Ganesha painting.

After all necessary preparation all I have to do is wait for Weekend. And the day come and I tried something amazing I always wanted to. First I sketch the Ganesha on canvas. I always good in drawing Ganesha, since from my childhood and I can draw them in diff. design and shapes.

But big thing has to come yet! After completing sketching, I have to do the real work, with oil colors and brushes. I took all the colors I needed on pallet and mixed thinner with it. I started to paint background first with brushes like I have the magic wand. Its really hard to paint on canvas, specially in smaller design parts and also have to take care of color not spread in blank area. Oil colors are very wet and takes time to get dry so you must use dryer and keep your fan on while painting. Its better if you paint in open space with better ventilation.

After spending so much time and putting lots of efforts, finally my first oil painting ready for show :) I hope you like it :) Its was great experience for me and increase my confident to do more such beautiful things in future.
